A body of work — Special Girls, Sculpture, Selfies, and Night Life — made over nearly five decades. Special Girls — A Celebration alone runs to more than 100,000 photographs of roughly 130 transgender and gender-nonconforming sitters, made in New York and Amsterdam between 1990 and 1998.

Almost none of it has ever been seen.
