Wherever Remsen went, his camera served as a shield against his agoraphobia, letting him photograph people in public spaces he might otherwise have avoided. Over five decades, he traveled extensively through the U.S., Europe and Israel, photographing men and women alone in public places — solo appearances recur throughout this street work. In a separate multi-year project, Scenes from a Made-Up Life, he photographed and assembled autobiographical and erotic still-lifes.
