The Remsen Wolff Collection is a private photographic archive maintained by Jochem Brouwer in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This website exists to make the work of Remsen Wolff visible. Nothing is sold through it.
This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why it is collected, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation.
Who is responsible
Jochem Brouwer is the data controller for this website. He can be reached at archive@theremsenwolffcollection.com.
What the site collects
Contact form. If you write through the contact form, it asks for your name, your email address and your message. That information is used only to read and answer what you have written. The legal basis is legitimate interest, namely replying to someone who has chosen to get in touch.
Newsletter. If you sign up for updates, the site records your email address and nothing else. No name is asked for. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time through the unsubscribe link in any message, or by writing to the address above.
Visit data. Like almost every website, this one records basic technical information when you visit: your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages you look at, and the site you arrived from. This is handled by Squarespace, which hosts the site, and is used to understand in general terms how the site is being read.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file that a website stores on your device.
This site sets a cookie called crumb. It is strictly necessary, it protects the forms against misuse, and it cannot be switched off.
Squarespace also sets two analytics cookies: ss_cid, which is kept for two years, and ss_cvisit, which is kept for thirty minutes. Together they recognise a returning visitor and group page views into sessions. They are not necessary for the site to work and are set only with your agreement.
One page carries an embedded YouTube video. If you play it, the YouTube player sets its own cookies, and Google's privacy policy governs that use.
Who else handles your information
Squarespace Ireland Limited hosts the site, runs the contact form and the mailing list, and provides the visit statistics. Google provides the mailbox that receives what you send, and the YouTube player.
Both may process information outside the European Economic Area. Squarespace does so under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Nothing is sold, rented, or passed to anyone for advertising.
How long it is kept
Messages sent through the contact form are kept for as long as the correspondence remains relevant, and are then deleted. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained by Squarespace on its own schedule.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you can ask to see the information held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. Where the processing rests on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Write to archive@theremsenwolffcollection.com and the request will be dealt with.
If you are not satisfied with the response, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
People pictured in the archive
The Collection consists largely of photographs of identifiable people. If you are pictured in material shown on this website and you would prefer that it not be shown, write to archive@theremsenwolffcollection.com. Such requests are taken seriously and are handled privately.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date at the top.
