Special Girls — A Celebration

Between 1990 and 1998, Remsen Wolff photographed 139 transgender and gender-nonconforming people in New York and Amsterdam: more than 100,000 analog images, secretly funded out of a wrongful-arrest settlement, almost none of which have ever been seen. The project was never acknowledged but Quentin Crisp, who himself was a sitter, wrote a preface for a book that never came to fruition.
